Social Sciences Winter Schools in South Asia

The Social Sciences Winter School in Pondicherry (SSWSP) is an Indo-French cooperation that has been designed as a programme of intensive and multidisciplinary training workshops addressing theoretical and methodological issues in social sciences research. Started in 2014 in Pondicherry, this event provides each and everyone with the opportunity of sharing experiences and research ideas. The training runs through five consecutive days and is articulated around two poles: the plenary sessions and the methodological workshops. From 2022, and two years of health crisis that prevented the event from being held, the main organisers decided to extend this training scheme to other South Asian countries, such as Pakistan and Nepal.

IRASEC Doctoral Workshop in Social Sciences and Humanities

The winter school Urban Theories Across Borders (UTAB) targets early career researchers — master and PhD students — who aim to pursue knowledge production about cities and urbanization in Southeast Asia from a social sciences perspective. It helps the students to engage with the most recent debates in the urban studies field, provides methodological tools to write and improve research proposals, and initiate the students to urban fieldwork activities.

This year, UTAB thematic focus is on comparative urban studies : why is it useful to compare cities in Southeast Asia and beyond ? Starting from this very broad question, we will ask why is it relevant to compare cities within Southeast Asia, and what do we get from expanding the comparisons to cities located outside of this regional area.

Les Ateliers Jeunes Chercheurs en Sciences Sociales en Inde (AJEI)

Since 1998, the annual Ateliers Jeunes Chercheurs en Sciences Sociales, organized by the Association Jeunes Études Indiennes (AJEI), has undoubtedly created a mobile interdisciplinary space, promoting encounters between researchers from different backgrounds and fostering fruitful exchanges at both the institutional and scientific levels. These workshops take place each year in a different location.

Geospatial data and Research : the Delhi R school

The Delhi GIS-R school is an Indo-French cooperation (CNRS-CPR-JNU) that has been designed in 2019 as a programme of intensive training workshops addressing theoretical and methodological issues in spatial modelling. This event provides unique opportunity for advanced scholars/researchers to treat an important amount of spatialised data. The program will combine lectures and R-tutorials during morning sessions; participants will develop projects in small groups (2-3 participants) during the afternoon sessions. This will allow them to apply methods and technical skills that will be introduced during the morning sessions.
